Company Statement on Product 212/SX Technical Clarification

Dear REL Acoustics Community,

We’ve observed a few discussions on social media regarding our 212/SX model and wish to address and clarify any potential misunderstandings.

Understanding the Issue: A limited number of our valued customers have noticed discrepancies between the power specifications printed on the rear panel of the 212/SX (stating 800W) and our official advertisements which mention it as a 1,000W amplifier. Additionally, there has been mention of certain manuals referring to the amplifier as 800W and Gen 3.

Clarifications:

1. Power Specifications: Every 212/SX unit, since the commencement of production, possesses a 1,000W amplifier, regardless of the specification printed on the rear panel or in the manual. We assure you that if you own a 212/SX, you have the power of 1,000W at your disposal.

2. Generation Reference: All 212/SX units are equipped with a Gen 5 amplifier. Any mention otherwise in the manuals is an oversight for which we apologize.

3. Printed Manuals: In our efforts to be environmentally responsible, we often use a single version of printed manuals over extended periods. We are dedicated to minimizing waste and, therefore, avoid frequent updates to printed materials. While we always work towards accuracy in our documentation, we prioritize sustainability in our practices. The online manual on our website clearly states the correct power of 1,000W and that the 212/SX uses a Gen 5 amplifier. We apologize if this led to extended confusion about this issue.

4. Gen Nomenclature: REL is primarily an engineering and design firm. Testing and manual writing take place months prior to the release of products. Nomenclature such as Gen 3 or Gen 5 doesn’t exist at that time. These descriptions are created close to, or even after, the product launch to assist customers in understanding our engineering evolution and improvements.

5. Rear Panel Notation: The mention of 800W on the rear panel is due to certification intricacies from earlier phases, which don’t impact the actual performance or output of the product.

Moving Forward: While this matter impacts only a small fraction of our customers, we believe in transparency and addressing concerns head-on. We encourage anyone with questions or in need of clarity to reach out directly to our dedicated customer service team.
