A .1/LFE (Low Frequency Effects) connection is a dedicated true .1 channel to be used for Surround Sound applications. It requires a RCA-to-RCA cable connected between your .1/LFE input on your REL and the subwoofer/.1/LFE output on your processor. The .1/LFE circuitry in your REL eliminates the normal Natural RollOff™ Crossover and passes the dedicated .1/LFE signal through unaltered by the REL. Appropriate volume adjustments can be made using the .1/LFE level control on your REL.
The .1/LFE input is designed to be used with the High Level input so there is no need to make adjustments when switching between 2-Channel and Surround Sound listening. For Surround Sound applications, you must configure the Front Left and Front Right speakers to the “Large” or “Full Range” in order for the REL to receive the bass signal via the high level cable. In this configuration, the REL provides support for both the left and right speakers for two-channel listening, and support for the .1/LFE when movies are playing. When your front speakers are set to "Large" or "Full Range" on your processor the subwoofer output will be disabled when listening in the 2-channel mode. The effect of this set-up is one of greatly increased dynamics in the mid-bass range, no bass bloat, and a greater degree of space and timing from the special audio effects.
